iPad Responsible Use Agreement Form
Hereworth School believes in a Digital Citizenship and Responsible Use model for supporting safe,
managed, and responsible use of devices and the Internet in our teaching and learning. Students
inherently demonstrating responsible use and citizenship values in activities partnered with
technologies is important as they grow up in a digital society. Parents/Caregivers are asked to help
their child understand the agreement form, sign it with awareness, and return it to the office prior to a
student-owned device being brought to school.

1. I am responsible for the management and care of my own device:
● I will create a personal four-digit code for login. I will have ‘Find my iPad’ app loaded.
● I will not tell anyone else my four-digit code/passwords.
● I will bring my device fully charged, in a protective named case.
● I will use my device during the times my teacher(s) permit.
● Others can share my screen but are not allowed to use my device.
● I will know where my device is, and I know I am responsible for its safety at all times between
home/ school/ home, and at school. It will remain in my desk when not being used, during
school hours.
● My parents/caregivers are responsible for the insurance and repair of my device. Hereworth
School, while taking all possible care, is not culpable or responsible in any way for my device.
● My teacher(s) will let us know what apps I will need to have on my device for school.
2. I understand that I need to use my device, and Internet access/sites to communicate with
others in positive, meaningful ways. I will share respectfully and politely with others online. I
know that it is possible to bully or hurt people with my actions online and I will consider what I
do online, and the effects it might have on other people.
3. I will be fair and honest in all of my actions using technologies. I will think about what I am
trying to access online and whether this is appropriate, or age restricted, or offensive material. I
will think about whether I have the right to download, save, or distribute content by copying,
videoing, photographing, storing, printing, or showing others. I will make sure that my actions
don’t break the law, or the rules of the websites that I use. If I’m unsure I will ask for help. I
understand that school has site filtering and protection in place.
4. I will not access inappropriate material. If I accidentally access inappropriate material, I will:
● Not show or share with others.
● Turn off the screen / device.
● Report the incident to my teacher or another staff member.
5. I will always respect people’s privacy and freedom of speech online. I understand that some
information is private. I will be careful when using full names, birthdays, addresses and
photos/videos of other people and of my own. I also know that I will not always agree with what
others say online but that does not mean I can stop them or use it as an excuse to be unkind or
rude to them.
6. I understand that there are protocols at school that include not downloading files such as music,
videos, games or programmes without permission. This makes sure our school respects the
Copyright Act 1994. If I use other people’s work (written, photos, video, etc.) I will make sure I
have the right to (Creative Commons License approvals) and acknowledge them in my work.
Connecting my USB drive or other devices is only allowed when I have permission from my
teacher(s).
7. I will respect all lCT systems in use at school and treat all ICT equipment/devices with care. This
means I won’t try to interrupt any school ICT systems by unauthorised access. I understand
there are some sites and apps that are not part of the learning and teaching in my school day
(such as Facebook) and I won’t try to access these. I understand that our school can monitor
content sent and received using the school’s ICT network. I am not permitted to use 3G, 4G or
other capability on my device at school.
8. I understand that being a good digital citizen is something we all have to work at. If I know that
my friends are having problems online, I will try to help them by telling an adult who I think can
make a difference. If I see that someone is being unfairly treated online then I will speak up
rather than just stand by. If my actions with ICTs, and working online are disrespectful, school
may inform my parents/caregivers and there are consequences.
9. I understand that this Responsible Use Agreement covers all forms of digital devices owned by
me, or school devices, including mobile phones. I understand that technology can help me to
learn. I also know they can be used to share my work, talk to people, to buy and sell things, and
to have my opinion heard. I know when and where it is OK to do each one.

I have read the Responsible Use Agreement form carefully and understand my responsibilities while
using technologies and my own device at school. I agree to respect the protocols in place, and know

I hope I am not showing my ignorance admitting I am unsure what is already installed on an iPad when it is first purchased. What the boys will be using initially( ie this term) and I would like them to have downloaded are as follows:

Popplet (not Popplet Lite)

A user friendly calculator would be good too. Most of these are free to download however there is a small charge attached to some of them. I will give notice if new applications need to be down loaded.
Please remember boys will not be allowed to use an iPad in their classroom unless a user agreement, signed by a parent(s) and their son, is returned to school.
From Monday boys will be able to bring in an iPad or iPad mini to school. While we are not asking parents to buy an iPad for their sons there have been questions about what to look for when purchasing a device. Ange Webster has put the following together:

Storage capacity- 16G 32G 64G All priced up depending on storage. 32g is a personal favourite but I have a lot of film/music on my iPad. 16g and work done in the clouds such as Googledocs etc take the need for more storage away.
Screen resolution - clarity, scope, and depth. Same resolution on an iPad 2 and a Mini Ipad.
iPad 3 (New iPad they called it) has newer technology built into the screen resolution, and the iPad 4 has a step up again in screen technology.
'Siri' is on iPad 3 and iPad 4, and iPad mini giving optional functionality. Siri is a voice controlled feature that finds out information for you across your iPad apps to deliver answers to you if you ask it.
IPads can come with technology allowing them to tap into the mobile phone comms technology. This means that when wifi is not available you can access the Internet by turning on this feature on your iPad. You top up the pre- paid system in order to use this feature. We will not be using this feature at school and will require boys to have this turned off if they have a 3G or 4G function on their iPad. It is an extra cost on an iPad if you choose this function.
There are other features that have been added on to newer iPads, but aren't the necessary nuts and bolts that we will be using.
Covers must be very strong and protective on the corners of the iPad - this is the number 1 consideration when choosing covers. Strong front and back protection is essential. Named clearly and obviously is also important.
It is a personal preference that is influenced by budget, portability/weight, and size of screen.
