Exams are in Week 4 of Term 4. Prep for Week 3 will be predominantly around revising for exams. We will be spending time in class revisiting topics that will be covered in the exam and it is very important that you ask if you do not understand and also that you make sure you have the notes/information around the topics to be covered. You should have a complete set of book work for each subject however I will photocopy an exemplary Social Science book for you to refer to if you have gaps.
It is difficult to 'revise' for English and Maths - it is more about revisiting and refreshing your mind! There will be nothing in any exam that we have not looked at in class.
Social Science:
Hereworth History - there will be questions around the forming of Hereworth from the 2 founding schools - Hurworth and Heretaunga; dates; the cornerstones; the school motto; the 100 year celebration.
Recall of facts and dates will be required
Financial Literacy - key words and definitions; set-up and ongoing costs; For Sale - what businesses aim to do; Goods and Services; tax - the 2 main types and what tax is 'used for'; interest
You will be given words and definitions to match and will then need to apply your understanding
Seas For Life - you need to have complete knowledge of the oceans and continents map; some examples of what the ocean is used for; ways to protect our oceans; be able to explain why this is a Social Science topic
5/6KF Maths:
Special numbers - squares, powers, factors, multiples, square root, prime numbers
Multiplication and Division - of whole numbers and decimals
Fractions, decimals and percentages - converting from one to the other; finding each as part of a whole number; improper fractions; addition and subtraction of fractions etc
Statistics - constructing graphs - including titles and axis labels (you will not be required to construct a pie graph); reading information from graphs.
Measurement - length/distance; area and perimeter
6CS Maths boys - you need to revise the same topics as above but there will be no statistics for you! Mr Scrimgeour has also set you some revision tasks on Study Ladder(which you were on today) to help you.
English:
Reading comprehension; proofreading; synonyms; parts of speech - adjectives, nouns, verbs, adverbs etc; homophones; cloze (adding words to a passage ensuring it makes sense); short and long vowel sounds
